Here is a wonderful introduction to 7 things you may not know about the new – and I continue to assert unnecessary, disingenuous and crass – “Fair Elections Act”. Central poll supervisors chosen by the incumbent party? Why in the nine hells would this be required? Elections Canada is, by design, an independent arms-length organization. We do not need the incumbent party futzing around in the process; down that path lies nothing but casting suspicion on the (currently well run and well-running) process. Nor do we need a law limiting what the CEO of Elections Canada is allowed to say to the media. And the loosening of money is an experiment already run, and looking at the petri dish we can see the results are not pretty.
I implore and invite you to call your local MP, regardless of political stripe, and voice your opposition to this unwarranted bill. You can find your MP by following this link.
