The work of Diébédo Francis Kéré. Using dirt simple (pun intended) local construction materials with traditional building methods, he has designed several buildings that are eco-intelligent, bright, pleasing, and durable while being inexpensive and easy to build (including teaching locals how to construct their own buildings).
To me they are also an example of that architecture does not need big budgets nor fancy materials; to say “I can’t do design because the budget won’t let me” is a misunderstanding of what “design” means. These buildings are simple but still possess a strong quality of light, good proportions to shape out inviting spaces, and as evidenced by the first picture, artistic surprise and delight.
